Meet Jeanette
Jeanette was born in rural, Southern Colorado. While much of her childhood was spent in the Wet Mountain Valley at the base of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, she and her family moved often. When she was just eight years old, they moved to Hawaii where they lived on a 35-foot sailboat along the coasts of Kauai and Oahu. After Hawaii they spent time in Northern California’s wine country then on to Tulsa, Oklahoma. She settled into boarding school, Fountain Valley School, back in Colorado for her high school years and it was there she began her endeavors in ceramics.
After graduating, her studies took her to North Carolina where she continued to learn ceramics in college and various apprenticeships. She traveled to New York, back to North Carolina and then finally home, to Colorado where she settled and started a family. Life took her away from clay for a time while she and her husband opened a bakery and café in Denver’s Lower Highlands neighborhood. They have owned and operated it since 2010. In 2020, however, she knew she needed to get back into throwing full time.
Jeanette now lives and works as a studio potter, slowly building out her home studio, as well as teaching and working at city mud denver, a community studio in Sunnyside. While much of her focus is on growing and establishing her own work, teaching has become a big part of her creative journey and something she very much enjoys.
